Tomorrow I will be performing Jamila and August’s wedding. It will be an intimate ceremony in my home and their children are included in the ceremony. It’s always fun to watch the children’s faces when they see Mommy and Daddy saying special words to each other…and feeling important too, as they are part of the ceremony. Sometimes children are part of the introduction, sometimes, the children give the mother to the father…sometimes the children hold the rings, and sometimes vows to the children are made as well.
This Sunday, I will be in Gig Harbor performing the wedding for Rebecca and Brandon. Rebecca and Brandon will be creating a new blended family with their new 8-week old daughter and both the bride and groom will be bringing a child of their own, two boys, into the marriage. It was fun to hear the excitement in Brandon’s voice as he made the arrangements for this last-minute wedding…he’s waited a long time but because of various life turns, never got the big wedding off the ground. I didn’t hear a drop of disappointment in that…only happiness as they will finally have the ceremony they have waited for. Another lovely weekend in the life of a Celebrant!
Wedding season traditionally begins in May and ends in October…but the planning for weddings is underway. Already I am booking weddings for this coming season. It seems that this year is off to a much stronger start compared to last year. With that said, it’s a great idea to begin selecting your Celebrant now as there are only so many weddings a Wedding Officiant can handle in a day…or a weekend.
This year, I am the Mother of the Bride…and won’t be performing my daughter’s ceremony. It is an exciting time for us…and yesterday my daughter and I, along with my other daughter and her fiance’s mother attended the Wedding Expo in Seattle. We found the perfect dress and she looked beautiful! She has her venue booked and has contacted an officiant about performing her ceremony. The venue she selected is The Grand Holiday Ballroom in Olympia. I performed a wedding there last year and the set up is wonderful. The chapel is darling and the lower level will house the reception. They have an in-house DJ, bar and Caterer, although they are flexible about using an outside Caterer. The set up includes all the tables, chairs, linens and tableware. They even have containers for flowers and silk flowers available. It makes it much easier for my daughter to focus on some of the other details of her wedding. I’ll be updating our progress in her wedding as the year moves along…what fun!
Sometimes a small wedding is just right. And sometimes, during the week works out just fine. Such was the case yesterday, December 3, at about 2:30 PM when Lindsey & John became husband and wife in my home. A few close friends were present along with their children and Lindsey’s mother. It was a sweet wedding with the sounds of children filling the room as these two immersed themselves in the vows they were taking.
- “And two shall be as one”
John anxiously awaited the arrival of his bride, you could tell he was so excited and when she made her entrance, he couldn’t take his eyes off her.
Congratulations to these two as they begin their new life together. They’ll do just great!
